We are all sad faces

We are all sad faces,
Refugees from sad places,
Wind-blown backwards
To we don't know where
Again and again until
We end up here.
We all have a past
Tarnished by ash,
Forced to be forgotten,
Blurred by time until
It weighs like load.
We've all made yesterday's mistakes.
We're all burdened by our sin,
And the sin of our kin.
We're all doomed before we begin.
We'are all human,
We all won't last,
And when our last day dawns
Our treasures will be smashed
And scattered about,
Back from where they came
As we will be,
And our histories
Will be no more,
And the tears will be wiped from our eyes,
And the wicked will hide in the dark
For fear of the light,
And all our crooked paths,
Wanderings without sight,
Will be set right.

I awoke this morn and said
I'd rather be dead,
But my past pushed me on.
Sometimes I wish it were all gone
Though I know it wrong.
Experience has led me to believe
Peace I won't achieve.
The past is all I have
To stare at when I am sad
And all I have ever had
To draw my sadness from.
What life I lead tomorrow
Is dimmed by yesterday's sorrow
Until what is left?
I lie bereft.
Forgive me though you may,
Today is still today,
The product of everything
That's worth doing,
And nothing
That's worth dying for
Once then forever more.
